From Academic Roots
to Real-World Results

XA Research was founded in Calgary, Alberta, by a group of engineers and researchers who wanted to bridge the gap between academic optimization methods and the realities of operating renewable energy assets. Our roots are in applied research: working with mathematical models, algorithms, and digital twins to understand how complex systems behave, and then asking a simple question; how can this actually help someone running a solar or wind farm today? XA Research grew out of that mindset, with a focus on turning advanced analytics into practical tools that improve performance, reduce risk, and support better decisions for owners, operators, and investors.

From the beginning, we’ve focused on utility-scale solar and wind projects, where small percentage gains in performance and lifetime value translate into meaningful financial and environmental impact. Our work combines optimization algorithms, physics-based modelling, and high-resolution data analysis with hands-on engineering judgement. We build and apply digital tools that quantify how assets should perform under given conditions, diagnose why they are not meeting that potential, and test scenarios to close the gap; whether that’s through layout changes, control strategies, or life-extension plans. Every method we use is transparent and traceable, so our results can stand up to internal review, independent engineering audits, and board-level scrutiny.

We see XA Research as a technical partner. We speak the language of engineers, data analysts, and asset managers, and we design our tools and studies to fit into real workflows: SCADA exports, operational reviews, investment committees, and long-term planning cycles. As the energy transition accelerates, our goal is to give renewable stakeholders the clarity and confidence they need to operate high-performing, low-risk portfolios, using digital engineering that is rigorous enough for research and practical enough for the field.
